Ankle socks

Currently Dustin’s socks are ankle length. I am thinking that after I finish the current chart repeat I will do two more before starting the cuff, but I will try them on him again when I finish the next repeat.

I love knitting toe up socks because I don’t worry about running out of yarn. This is the first time that I have knit a pattern with more than a 4 row repeat. Even though I don’t have to worry if I am going to run out of yarn in the same way, I have to plan it out enough that I can start the cuff at the end of a chart repeat. Paired for Life is a 43 row chart repeat. I am really enjoying this pattern, but the next socks that I knit will be a plain vanilla pair of socks. While I don’t find cables to be particularly difficult, they are time consuming for me. Luckily I enjoy knitting so time consuming isn’t a problem per se but I also enjoy having a finished project and am itching to start my next project. I am hoping to finish them before Sunday.

The weather was perfect today. It was seventy something degrees and sunny. I wish I could have spent all day knitting. Darn work and having to pay bills. Don’t get me wrong, I like my job and I like having bills paid, but some days I just have other things I’d rather do. At least I will be going in to work a bit late tomorrow so that I can enjoy the assembly at my son’s school first thing in the morning.

Paired for life update

I have been knitting quite a bit the last two days and have made a good amount of progress. There was some tinking that had to happen yesterday thanks to a dropped stitch, but we are back on track now! I have discovered that the lighting in our living room is just not enough for me to see to knit with dark, thin yarn so I have stayed in the bedroom all day, hanging out in bed with Netflix on my iPad. Today I managed to finish watching the last several episodes of Fuller House and 2.5 episodes of Broadchurch season 3. I feel like I have been very antisocial with my family today, but I am trying very hard to get these socks finished as soon as possible. I am about an inch away from starting the heels so I am getting there. The thing that I really enjoy about doing socks two at a time is that progress happens slowly, but they will both be finished when I get done. No worries about second sock syndrome! This pattern is working up very beautifully. I love knitting cables. Since tomorrow is Monday, I will be back at work and not making near as much progress. I am going to try to get as much as I can done though.

I got sidetracked with looking at different projects that I would like to do in the future. I have a bunch of sock yarn leftovers that I want to make into something. I haven’t decided exactly what that will be yet, but I am keeping my eyes open. My next project will probably be a brioche scarf or cowl. I have never tried brioche before so I am excited about trying something new. I may cast on another pair of socks, too. I have two more colors of sock yarn waiting to be socks in the closet. One may end up being another pair of Hermione’s Everyday Socks by Erica Lueder. I am wearing the pair that I knit back in 2011 today and they fit my feet so nicely. I may just have to knit one of the many other socks that I have in my Ravelry queue. I need more hours in the day to knit all the things that I would like to knit. Decisions are hard sometimes.

Opening ceremony

I am kind of a fuddy-duddy when it comes to watching most anything on TV so I didn’t watch the opening ceremony. I will flip to the games occasionally, but mostly I won’t watch much of the Olympic. Netflix and Amazon Prime are a whole other ballgame. I guess being able to binge watch a show makes it more enjoyable for me. I will definitely be binge watching some shows while I am participating.

Last night’s knitting took place lounging on the bed while BF sat in the big round chair in our room while watching Ancient Aliens on History. I realized that even on the stockinette parts, I am having a difficult time not looking while knitting with this yarn. It isn’t super splitty, but it is definitely not the least splitty yarn I’ve ever used. I may have to keep the binge watching to shows that I have already seen or things I can mostly listen to.

I am working on a pair of socks for my sweet BF. After much debate on the pattern choice and a few false starts, I settled on Paired for Life by Elke Alexius. It is a lovely pattern with simple cables. The design is beautiful but simple. I didn’t want anything too intricate since this will be his first pair of knit socks so I don’t know how well he will like them. I understand that not everyone enjoys wearing hand knit socks. I myself can only wear them when it is cold out or around the house. My feet get hot very easy so the nice thick socks tend to be a bit much when it is warm out. I am knitting these two at a time and they are a toe up sock pattern. I have never done two at a time with toe up. I thought it was going to be a little more difficult and fiddly than it turned out to be. I think that I will probably be knitting most of my socks this way from now on. I have not yet decided on the heel that I am going to use. My favorite is the Fish Lips Kiss Heel by Sox Therapist but I don’t know if I want to use that or something else for these. I have some time to think about it. Decisions are hard. I think I just need to knit more socks so I can choose different ways. A choose your own adventure for socks if you will.

This particular yarn is Stroll Tonal in the Orbit color way. Like I said earlier, it can be a tad splitty. I like it despite that, but I don’t know that I will get it again for anything other than plain socks. The colors are gorgeous though. I need to do some serious stash enhancing but money and storage space are both limited at this point in the game. I may need to go take a trip to LYS to find something else that I like. I am all for buying from individuals or my LYS whenever I can.

I managed to finish the toes and knit two rows of the foot last night. It isn’t much but I got a late start on knitting and I only had a handful of rows on the toes done to begin with. I would like to be to the heel by the end of the weekend. I am not making promises though. I need to really think more about what a second project will be in case I somehow manage to finish these with enough time to spare for a second project, but decisions are hard.

Well enough typing. I have some knitting that is calling my name!
